Miguel looked at each of the two bottles of capsules sitting on his lab table. He carefully removed the cap on the bottle to his right and slowly poured the contents onto the table. He picked up a capsule. He examined it closely. He held it up to the light and smiled. He returned it to the pile of capsules. He chose another capsule and closely examined it as well. He gently separated the capsule shell and watched as the powder inside landed in a small mound on the table. He bent down so that he could observe more closely. He dampened his index finger tip with his tongue and touched the powder so that a small residue remained on his finger. He touched his thumb from the same hand to the dampened powder encrusted finger feeling the texture and solubility of the substance. He smiled again.
He looked at the unopened bottle. He reached out and carefully removed the cap as he had done with the first bottle. He emptied the bottle onto the table at a distance from the first pile. He picked up a capsule, turning it between his fingers as he raised it up to his eyes. He held it up to the light. As before, he separated the capsule shell and observed the powder cascading into a mound on the table. He bent over the table to examine the powder. He looked at the first mound and turned his head back to the second mound. He nodded his head showing that he was satisfied with his work. He dampened another finger and plunged the finger tip into the powder. He tested the consistency by rubbing it with the thumb of the same hand as he had done before. He nodded again.
Carefully he wiped up all the powder from the lab table emptying it into the sink. He turned on the water and washed and rewashed his hands making sure that all the powder was washed away down the drain. He dried his hands thoroughly. He walked back to the lab table and glanced at the two piles of capsules. He deliberately picked up a capsule from the left pile and placed it in his left hand, then he picked up a capsule from the first pile with his right hand. He closely examined them both together, nodding again.
He replaced the capsules in their respective piles and stared unmoving for several seconds. Suddenly he reached down with both hands and stirred both piles together with a circular motion. He watched as the capsules tumbled and rolled bouncing off of one another. He was careful not to let even one fall off the edge of the table onto the floor. When the motion of the capsules ceased, then he began to count the capsules as he replaced them back into the two bottles. After all there had to be 100 capsules in each bottle! As he was counting, he began to laugh, and he couldn’t stop!
